If you are looking for loan modification, the first thing you need to know is how does a loan modification work? You need to make a request to the lender through a request letter that also outlines the terms of loan modification. Here are few instructions on how to write a letter requesting a lender to modify your loan:

.When writing s letter for loan modification you must include the details of the home loan that you have so that your lender is able to find your file with ease. Your letter must include your loan reference number, names listed on your loan documents, address where your property is located, your contact number and the mortgage lender's details.

.Begin your letter with the reason why you want to opt for loan modification. Stress on this being the ultimate option that you have opted for and let them know that if they do not co operate you will have to default on your payment.

.Let your lenders know why you are having difficulty paying the loan and why you are facing this financial hardship. Maybe you have lost a job or have faced the death of a spouse that has reduced your income to a huge level, have a medical condition for which you need to pay extensive medical bills or have a lawsuit settlement to pay off.

.Tell your lenders how you have tried to improve your finances and try to convince them that if they co operate on the loan, you will continue to make regular payments provided they approve your request for loan modification. If you have a payment plan, then go ahead and give it to them. Let them know how many payments you would want to skip in order to bring yourself on track in regards to payments. You may also request for a reduction in rate, extension in the mortgage term or even a reduction in the total amount of loan.

.Keep your request to the point and limit it to a single page, not more than that. Your mortgage lender will contact you for more details.
